Reyna Barden, a Mississippi native, earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Education and Master of Education in School Administration at Mississippi State University. She moved to Cobb County in 1993 and has been teaching for over 20 years. She currently teaches 2nd grade at Hayes Elementary where she served as Director of the tutoring program and was awarded Teacher of the Year in 2014. Reyna has significant experience teaching special education and inclusion classes and enjoys helping students reach their potential by developing social skills, study skills and providing individual tutoring. 

Reyna lives in Acworth with her husband and their dogs Darcy and Leo. A recent empty nester, she enjoys exercising, working in the yard, and trying new restaurants.

 Karen earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications at Virginia Tech with a focus on journalism and creative writing. She has been on staff with Cobb County Public School System for the past 10 years working in Kindergarten and Pre-K Special Needs classrooms. Karen previously worked in marketing for a private company where her main role included motivating employees and improving the organization’s climate. She also worked as Assistant Director of the Senior Volunteer Program at a medical center where she provided support for the senior citizens and acted as liaison between the hospital and volunteers.

Karen brings with her a passion for helping students accomplish their goals. Her mission is to provide a safe place for students to master life and social skills.  She looks forward to inspiring them to make positive impressions on those around them while providing a sense of independence and personal development.

Karen lives in Acworth with her husband and three children. Her hobbies include interior decorating and event planning.
